In our world of overt consumerism, learning to make clothes with your own hands has become so freeing.I can attest to that feeling😊 I’m extremely proud of this vintage style wrap blouse.
After buying my sewing machine 1 week ago I couldn’t wait to learn how to use it. I started off with the basic. 1st learn to thread the darn thing O and sew in a straight line (still haven’t mastered that as yet😅) nevertheless, I decided to dive right in on my first project.
This wrap blouse is one of my favourite and it looked so easy to replicate! It is perfect for summer and would work well with any high waisted skirt, shorts or pants.
I didn’t have any pattern but I had fabric,which by the way I purchased about five years ago hoping to one day create something. I guess that day came.
I cut around my existing blouse and use it as my pattern.
I’m extremely proud of the outcome…my biggest struggle was sewing in a straight.Luckily, this pattern is very busy so hopefully its not too noticeable😄
Result
I even got creative and added strips of left over fabric to my shorts pockets. I thought this was a nice touch giving off a 50s short set vibes

Conclusion
I have a long way to go before I can make a full dress but I think I’m of to a great start…I’ve noticed Blogs and YouTube video are great resources, and the #sewcialists tag on Instagram .
What does it Means to be able to make my own clothes?
Making my own clothes and accessories means I will have original one-off pieces that no one else has(the same reason I love true vintage clothing) also being able to make sure my clothes fit exactly and flatter my figure, another great bonus is being able to repair some of my vintage clothes.
