A Floral Day at the Beach in 1950s Glamour

Sunshine, sea breeze,  I’m spending the day at Ryde Beach wearing this stunning 1950s floral swimsuit from Dig For Vintage. The vibrant print, peplum silhouette, and halter neckline make it feel like I’ve stepped right out of a pin-up postcard. Styled with classic red lips, a straw hat, and my favourite parasol — it’s all about timeless seaside elegance.

All little history for you….

The bathing suit I’m wearing is inspired by the iconic 1950s swim dress — a stylish alternative to bikinis that offered more coverage while celebrating the feminine form. These suits often featured built-in bras, flared skirts, ruched bodices, and halter necklines, like the one I’m wearing from Dig For Vintage.

Back in the post-war era, holidays by the sea were becoming more accessible, and so was fashionable swimwear. Women sought flattering silhouettes that blended modesty with glamour — perfect for lounging by the pool or strolling down the boardwalk. Designers like Rose Marie Reid, Jantzen, and Catalina popularized this look, and Hollywood starlets helped cement its timeless appeal.

On my way to the beach, I couldn’t resist striking a pose with this beauty. It is a perfect match for a sun-soaked summer day. There’s something so whimsical about vintage bicycles — the rusted charm, woven baskets, and stories they seem to carry. I love how they instantly transport you to a gentler time, where the pace was slower and every ride felt like a little adventure. Styled in my 1950s floral swimsuit from Dig For Vintage,

Special thanks to Dig For Vintage for keeping the golden age of swimwear alive!
