On Sunday, 30 August 2026, the Jamaica Horticultural Society Grounds in Hope Pastures became the setting for an afternoon filled with vintage style, community and nostalgia. The Vintage Picnic in the Park was created as more than an event—it was an invitation to slow down, dress beautifully, gather outdoors and celebrate vintage culture in a way that felt distinctly Jamaican.

I had imagined what the day might look like for months. Still, I was completely blown away by the tremendous effort our guests made to understand and embrace the concept. From carefully styled outfits to thoughtfully arranged picnic displays, every corner of the grounds reflected personality, creativity and a shared love of another era.

A community that showed up

One of the most meaningful parts of the afternoon was seeing how far people travelled to be there. Guests joined us from Mandeville, Manchester and beyond, proving that the love of vintage style is not confined to Kingston. Some arrived with friends and family, while others came ready to meet people who shared their interests.

The beautiful matching couple was one of the day’s memorable highlights. Their coordinated look captured the spirit of the picnic perfectly and reminded us that vintage style can be elegant, joyful and shared. Throughout the afternoon, our guests celebrated their differences while being brought together by a genuine love of vintage aesthetic.

Picture-perfect style and picnic displays

The fashion was everything I hoped it would be. Full skirts, hats, gloves, florals, polka dots and carefully chosen accessories brought the grounds to life. Guests did not simply wear costumes; they interpreted vintage style in ways that felt personal and authentic.

The picnic displays were just as special. Baskets, blankets, china, flowers and vintage-inspired details transformed the lawn into a collection of intimate scenes. Our Best Picnic Display judging celebrated the care that went into creating those spaces, while the Best Dressed awards recognised guests who truly made the theme their own.

Classic cars and unforgettable photographs

The classic cars gave the event a striking sense of place and time. They became some of the most photographed features of the afternoon and created the perfect backdrop for our guests’ vintage looks. We are deeply grateful to the Jamaica Classic Car Club and every owner who brought a vehicle and helped create such memorable photo moments.

An afternoon of activities and connection

Between photographs and picnics, guests enjoyed croquet, our Fashion and History Quiz, the Vintage Photo Scavenger Hunt and plenty of opportunities to explore. These activities were designed to encourage conversation, discovery and a little friendly competition. More importantly, they helped strangers become acquaintances and acquaintances become part of a growing community.

The Picnic Village experience

Our vendors added flavour, fragrance and personality to the day. Lyme Yah kept guests refreshed with delicious handcrafted drinks and lemonade—especially welcome on such a warm afternoon. Jackie Wellness brought her wellness offering, while our dessert vendors, including Gifted by Veronica, provided sweet treats for guests to enjoy.

Prince D Bruce delivered a top-tier presentation that reflected the premium, luxury character of the brand. Every detail of the setup felt considered, and the scent experience added another beautiful layer to the afternoon.

Our guests also received keepsake photo keyrings, giving them a small piece of the Vintage Picnic to take home. Thank you to every vendor and creative partner who contributed their time, products and care to the experience.

Growing vintage culture in Jamaica

The Vintage Picnic in the Park showed that vintage culture has a place in modern Jamaica. It can connect generations, inspire self-expression, support local businesses and create experiences that feel both nostalgic and new.

This is only the beginning for The Vintage Society JA. My hope is to continue creating spaces where people can dress up, learn, connect and celebrate the beauty of the past without feeling that they have to fit into one narrow idea of what vintage should look like.
